About This Blog

A while back someone suggested that, as a person in the sticky middle of a seemingly endless illness, I need to separate Kelley the Patient from Kelley the Woman.  This photo blog is my attempt to do that.  It is my hope that the brief flashes collected here will crack the shell that has surrounded me, both so that the world may enter, and so that I may once again enter the world.

You may be wondering: “What’s with the Vonnegut quote?  Sounds creepy.”  It isn’t really.  It’s from a poem in the book Slapstick.  Here is the poem:

I was those seeds,
I am this meat,
This meat hates pain,
This meat must eat.
This meat must sleep,
This meat must dream,
This meat must laugh,
This meat must scream.
But when, as meat,
It’s had its fill,
Please plant it as
A Daffodil.

The bolding is mine.  It highlights the particular struggles of the particular meat that is me.

For those who are interested in these kinds of things, I am shooting with a Nikon D70 circa 2004 (which I’m pretty sure qualifies as an antique).  I mostly use a 50mm f1.4 lens, but occasionally I’ll use an 85mm or 24mm.  I very rarely edit my photos—most go straight from the camera to the blog, with a brief layover in iPhoto.

From time to time I post artwork as well. I am currently messing around with watercolor/collage, and sitting on the fence about opening a shop on Etsy.  If I end up doing it, you can bet your ass I’ll post a link.
